Hertahütte und Falkenfelsen

The view from the Hertahütte look-out point is definitely worth seeing. The lower slopes are covered mostly by deciduous trees. Testimony to the original composition of the forest, a group of old gnarled beech trees interspersed with a few fir trees make up the “Schonwald Falkenfelsen”. It shows the original structure of the forest on stony cliffs of granite in the valleys of the Black Forest. Trademark of the Falkenfelsen – which lends it its name – is the peregrine falcon. This falcon can still be seen in the Schonwald, the massive rocks being its hunting grounds.
