Sandsee is a small lake, idyllically located in the woods of the northern Black Forest between Sand and Herrenwies. The water of the lake was dammed in the 18th Century to be used for timber rafting. In 1933, Sandsee was refashioned into a lido and was used for swimming and sun-bathing up to the mid-1970s. The lake's name comes from the new red sandstone soil heavily prevalent in the region.
