Schwarzenbachtalsperre (elev. 668.5 m) is located between the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse and the Murgtal on the L83 road some 10 km from Forbach. Almost 2 km long, Schwarzenbachtalsperre is the largest reservoir in the northern and central Black Forest. Water is directed in underground and overground headrace tunnels and pressure shafts for generating electricity at the Rudolf-Fettweis-Werk (EnBW) in Forbach. Due to its idyllic location, surrounded by Black Forest mountains, the lake is a popular destination in both summer and winter. A 6.5 km-trail rings the Schwarzenbachtalsperre going along the northern shore and through the woods above the south side. At its starting point at the dam, there are some information panels telling the history of the reservoir. Numerous attractions around the lake can be reached by hiking or mountain biking. There is an impressive view from the dam to the valley below or out across the lake. Boats can be hired in the direct vicinity of the dam and swimming or sun-bathing in summer is a refreshing experience. For those who love peace and quiet, why not go out fishing on the lake?
