Huzenbacher See

Lake Huzenbacher See (elev. 747 m) is a glacial lake in Baiersbronn-Huzenbach. Shrouded in legend, its distinctive characteristic today are the small yellow pond lilies which cover its surface.

The blossoms can be seen from mid- to end July. The lake was formed 25,000-30,000 years ago. It has been used as a rafters lake since the 18th Century. In 1895, a dam was constructed so that the water levels could be better regulated. This raised the lake some two meters with the result that it is now 7-8 meters deep. When the water table was raised, some of the land that previously formed the banks was dislodged, creating the network of mosses, roots and young trees that cover part of the lake's surface today
