The dreamy, somewhat secluded lake Buhlbachsee can be found in a deep, notched caldera on the east side of the Schliffkopf Ridge. It is a relic of the last big Ice Age which came to an end in the Black Forest some 10,000 years ago. The Buhlbach flows into the lake, joining up with the Rechtmurg further north. The distintive feature of this idyllic lake is the island covered with downy birch floating in the middle of the lake. Buhlbachsee can be reached by taking the hiking trail from Kniebis or Baiersbronn-Obertal across the Buhlbach.
